Dr. Bittner has a long list of academic and professional achievements to his credit, and he’s a valued member of our clinic staff. After receiving both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the Department of Bioengineering from the University of Washington, Dr. Bittner went on to earn a medical doctorate from the University’s  School of Medicine.  He remained to complete his Internal Medicine Internship and Radiation Oncology Residency within the University of Washington hospital system.  During his residency training, Dr. Bittner served as the resident coordinator for the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy fellowship program.  Shortly after completing his residency training, he also served on the board of directors for the ABS.  He is currently serving a 4-year term on the Guidelines and Standards Committee of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and was recently appointed as the chair of the collaborative committee to update the 2015 cycle of the ACR-ABS practice parameters for permanent prostate brachytherapy.  Dr. Bittner remains active in clinical research and has co-authored 26 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals, 19 of which he is listed as the first author.  He recently co-authored a textbook chapter in the Current Multidisciplinary Oncology Series on surrogate endpoints for prostate cancer-specific mortality.  He has presented his research work at both national and international meetings and recently gave an oral presentation during the plenary session of the annual ABS meeting.  Dr. Bittner is board-certified in radiation oncology and holds memberships in multiple medical societies including the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American College of Radiation Oncology and American Brachytherapy Society.
